Israeli police bar Palestinian women from entering Aqsa Mosque

The Israeli occupation police on Monday morning detained a number of Palestinian women with their children in the Old City of Jerusalem as they were walking to the Aqsa Mosque for prayers.

According to local sources, police officers detained several women near Bab al-Sahira area in the Old City, seized their ID cards and prevented them from entering the Aqsa Mosque.

The police justified the measure against the women by claiming they had no permits allowing their entry to the Islamic holy site.

In a separate incident, the Israeli police ordered Jerusalemite photojournalist Mohamed Qarout to go to a detention center in the holy city in the afternoon for questioning.

Qarout has been arrested and persecuted by the Israeli police several times before.
