Palestinian detainee Sami Janazra, 47, has been on hunger strike in Israeli jails for 8 days protesting his detention without charge or trial.
Israel’s Supreme Court a few days ago rejected a petition filed against the administrative detention order issued against Janazra who had served several prison terms totaling about 11 years in Israeli jails, most of them in administrative detention.
Kayed Janazra, Sami’s brother, said that when Sami was arrested on 16 September 2019, he was immediately sentenced to four months in jail without charge or trial. His prison term was later extended for another four months.
Janazra, a resident of al-Fawwar refugee camp in al-Khalil and a father of three, went on a hunger strike in 2015/2016 that lasted for 76 days and another one in 2017 for 43 days also in protest at his administrative detention.
