Qalqilya, (Alresalah.ps)--The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) has reported that a Palestinian detainee died in an Israeli detention facility, Thursday.
The PPS said the detainee Omar Awni Abdul-Kareem Younis, 20, from Sanniriya town, Qalqilya, has died of wounds sustained in Beilinson hospital, Petah Tikva.
IOF soldiers opened fire on Younis at Zaatara military checkpoint, northern Nablus city, alleging that he was involving in a stabbing attack. Younis was transferred to hospital in a critical condition.
The PPS said the that Salem Court-Marshal renewed the detention of Younis on Thursday for 7 days under the pretext of further investigations.
The court also prevented the detainee from family visits and renewed his detention despite the severity of his medical conditions, the PPS added.
It held Israel responsible for his death, especially due to the extremely bad living conditions the detainees faced, the lack of proper medical treatment, and added that the “silence of the international community encourages Israel to continue and escalate its violations.”
It is worth mentioning that Younis is the detainee number 219 who died in Israeli prisons, or after being detained since 1967.
